We had a good bus trip. It took us about 8 1/2 hours to get here - we watched a few movies, several girls knit scarves, and many of us got some reading done. We arrived in Joplin at Abundant Life at about 4:30. Debbie, one of the staff members here, told us a little bit of their history. They've been housing volunteers here since the first night after the tornado.
We brought our bags to our bunk rooms:
Were shown the shower trucks:
We ate supper (spaghetti, bread & salad):
Then we made a Wal-Mart run. We needed some supplies to make our sack lunches tomorrow morning, and students bought a few snacks. Even in the dark, we could figure out that the area that Wal-Mart was in had been re-built after the tornadoes. All of the buildings were brand new, there were only very small trees, and many of the side-streets had no street lights. It will be interesting to see everything in the daylight tomorrow.
Now we're hanging out - playing Jenga, Farkle, etc. Breakfast is at 7:00 tomorrow morning. We're all excited to see what the day will bring!
